The Desgagnés approach
Ice, harsh winds, strong tides - Arctic waters set their own rules for sailors! They must challenge the Arctic and deliver the goods! Over the years,
Groupe Desgagnés
has shown its know-how. Today, its subsidiary Desgagnés Transarctik sails freely through frozen waters and with skill close to shore.
A fleet of specially designed vessels; a highly qualified, experienced staff,
specialized equipment
services perfectly in tune with conditions, and sound judgment - this is the Desgagnés approach!
Arctic operations...
The art of unloading!
The port facilities in Arctic Ocean regions are extremely basic, sometimes no more than a wooden pontoon or a rocky jetty swept by the waves and icy ocean winds
There, unloading operations are a true challenge requiring precision and split-second timing. On one side, the ship with its precious cargo, and on the other - against a backdrop of taiga and tundra - are hundreds of people waiting for supplies.

A unique method
Desgagnés Transarctik's expert unloading method sets the standard. The vessel is anchored as close to shore as its draft permits. Barges and tugboats are disembarked first. Then, land equipment and goods are unloaded onto the
barges
, which are towed to shore. The ship's crew uses this land equipment to move cargo to shore, safe from the tides and winds.
Safety and environmental protection
All Arctic operations are constantly monitored to ensure the safety of crew members working in a high risk environment.
In compliance with the ISM
(International Safety Management)
Code, all vessels used by Desgagnés Transarctik have implemented an operating safety and pollution prevention management system.
Desgagnés Transarctik ensures that the natural environment retains its unique and compelling beauty.
