The Canadian Coast Guard and Transport Desgagnés held a two-day joint session in May 2004. On this occasion, the Canadian Coast Guard provided a training to Desgagnés Marine Petro's mariners on the various techniques pertaining to petroleum spill confinement measures that should be taken during operations North of the 60th parallel; this training also covered other scenarios where spill confinement measures could be required.

All trained personnel of the M/T Petrolia Desgagnés learned how to deploy booms, install buoys and anchors, confine a spill around a ship while in port or at sea and simulate a «U» type recuperation.

Ships operated by Transport Desgagnés always have emergency equipment on board in case of any environmental incident during Arctic operations. This year, the ship will also transport some of the Canadian Coast Guard's equipment into the region.

The whole exercise was a success, despite Mother Nature's changing moods. Both the Canadian Coast Guard and Transport Desgagnés officials noted that they learned from the experience.
