Vessel Bella Desgagnés back in service

Relais Nordik inc. is pleased to announce that the problems affecting one of the vessel Bella Desgagnés’s motors have been resolved. She will therefore be resuming her service as of Monday, June 24 as per the regular schedule, and all the usual services will be provided.

“Although it was simply a poorly insulated wire that had charred while in contact with the motor’s internal wall, the whole motor had to be disassembled in order to identify and correct the problem”, explained Mr. Robin Kelleher, General Manager of Relais Nordik. “We also took this opportunity to install sheathing to protect the wiring of the defective electric motor as well as that of the second motor“, he added.

The Company also took advantage of the vessel’s downtime to have a specialists inspect other electronic and electrical systems in order to minimize the risks of recurrence. Costs incurred for the repairs, the Bella Desgagnés’s downtime, temporary re-commissioning of the Nordik Express, experts’ services and special transportation of passengers are estimated at more than three quarters of a million dollars.

« Although we had originally anticipated that breaking-in this unique and technologically advanced ship would take a certain time, and despite the exorbitant cost to change a piece of wire, the Company has always placed security in the forefront and spared no effort to correct the ship’s problems while ensuring an alternate service”, Mr. Kelleher specified.

The whole team at Relais Nordik Inc. wish to present their sincere apologies to their customers for the inconveniences caused by this situation, and wish to thank the users for the patience and understanding they demonstrated throughout this period.
